Bad condo boards, beware: Legislature passes new laws unanimously

TALLAHASSEE
The Florida Senate on Monday gave unanimous and final approval to a bill that imposes criminal penalties on condominium violations such as electoral fraud, theft of funds and conflicts of interests — all significant problems in Miami-Dade County.
The 37-0 vote on the bill, already endorsed by the House last week in another unanimous vote, now goes to Gov. Rick Scott for his signature.

Drugged driving eclipses drunken driving in tests of motorists killed in crashes

For the first time, statistics show that drivers killed in crashes are more likely to be on drugs than drunk.
Forty-three percent of drivers tested in fatal crashes in 2015 had used a legal or illegal drug, eclipsing the 37 percent who tested above the legal limit for alcohol, according to a report released Wednesday by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) and the Foundation for Advancing Alcohol Responsibility.
Of the drivers who tested positive for drugs, more than a third had used marijuana and more than 9 percent had taken amphetamines.

New-Home Sales Up 5.8% in March
Year over year, the gain swells to 15.6%.
The Census Bureau and Department of Housing and Urban Development on Tuesday reported sales of new single-family houses in March 2017 rose 5.8% from February to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 621,000, 15.6% ahead of the March 2016 estimate of 537,000.
The median sales price of new houses sold in March 2017 was $315,100, up from $293,100 in February and $311,400 in March of last year. The average sales price was $388,200, up from $373,600 in February and $367,700 in March, 2016.
